Studio Ghibli Launches New Princess Mononoke and Spirited Away Plushies

Date:

Fans of Studio Ghibli classics like Princess Mononoke and Spirited Away can now bring home brand-new versions of their favorite characters, available through the studio’s official online store.

The Donguri Sora storefront has expanded its hit Komorebi plush line with three new additions from two of Ghibli’s most iconic films. These join previous favorites such as Catbus (My Neighbor Totoro), Hin and Calcifer (Howl’s Moving Castle), and Jiji (Kiki’s Delivery Service). The Komorebi line was first launched in October 2025, and these latest releases have already captured fan attention.

The new plush toys include a Kodama from Princess Mononoke (retailing for ¥2,640, around US$17), Bo-nezumi (Boh in mouse form), and Ootori-sama (“Lord Big Bird”) from Spirited Away, priced at ¥4,180 (~US$26.50) and ¥3,960 (~US$25) respectively. Each character retains the charm and whimsical expressions seen in the films.

Princess Mononoke, written and directed by co-founder Hayao Miyazaki, is set in a fantastical version of Japan’s Muromachi period. The story follows Ashitaka, the last Emishi prince, who is cursed by a demon he defeats to protect his village. Exiled, Ashitaka journeys to Irontown, where he witnesses the oppression of humans and spirits alike, eventually joining forces with San, the titular Princess Mononoke, to protect the natural world.

Upon its release, Princess Mononoke became the highest-grossing film in Japanese history at the time, earning over $212 million worldwide and winning 21 out of 25 major industry award nominations. It also marked the first Studio Ghibli film released internationally.

Similarly, Spirited Away (2001) became another massive success, following 10-year-old Chihiro Ogino as she navigates a mysterious world of spirits after her parents are transformed into pigs. The film grossed over $396 million worldwide against a modest $19.2 million budget and has returned to theaters multiple times, including at GKIDS’ Studio Ghibli Fest in 2025, which showcased other fan favorites like My Neighbor Totoro, Grave of the Fireflies, Howl’s Moving Castle, and The Boy and the Heron.

With these new Komorebi plushies, Studio Ghibli fans can now add more beloved characters to their collections, bringing the magic of Night Forests and spirit-filled worlds into their homes.
