Uniqlo Launches RM60 Retro Pokémon T-Shirts Ahead Of 30th Anniversary

Date:

Uniqlo has unveiled a brand-new collection of retro-inspired Pokémon Red and Green T-shirts ahead of the Pokémon franchise’s upcoming 30th anniversary celebrations in 2026.

The collection pays tribute to the original Pokémon Game Boy titles released in Japan in 1996, featuring nostalgic monochrome pixel-art designs inspired by the classic handheld gaming era.

While the original games were displayed in limited monochrome tones on Nintendo’s Game Boy system, Uniqlo has refreshed the designs using sharper black-and-white contrasts while preserving the old-school pixel aesthetic beloved by longtime fans.

The new lineup includes four different T-shirt designs themed around iconic Pokémon characters and scenes from the original games.

One design recreates the classic Pokémon Red title screen, while another features evolved Pokémon such as Onix, Starmie, Raichu, Vileplume, Weezing, Alakazam, Arcanine and Rhydon printed across the front.

Fans also noticed hidden details incorporated into the shirts, including evolution items displayed on the sleeves as a nod to how the featured Pokémon evolve in the games.

Another design spotlights legendary Pokémon Mewtwo on the front, while a small hidden image of Mew appears on the back as an Easter egg for dedicated fans.

Perhaps the most unique design in the collection features Pikachu printed beside text referencing the Pokémon evolution sequence from the games.

The shirt also includes a pocket hiding Raichu inside, referencing Pikachu’s evolved form.

The shirts are priced at 1,990 yen each, which is approximately RM60, and are scheduled to go on sale in July through Uniqlo stores and its online platform.

The launch comes amid growing nostalgia surrounding Pokémon’s upcoming 30th anniversary, with many fans revisiting the franchise’s earliest games, anime and trading card releases that helped turn Pokémon into one of the world’s biggest entertainment brands.
