Viral Claim Alleges Student Barred From Sitting For SPM Papers To Maintain School Pass Rate

Date:

A social media post alleging that a student was barred from sitting for several Malaysian Certificate of Education (SPM) examination papers has sparked widespread public attention and debate over school administrative conduct.

The claim was shared on Threads by a Malaysian man who said his sibling was allegedly prevented by a school principal from sitting for three SPM subjects — Mathematics, Science and Islamic Studies — reportedly to protect the school’s overall pass rate.

According to the post, the student had earlier managed to sit for and pass two subjects. However, the family later discovered that the student was recorded as “absent” for the remaining papers, raising questions about what had taken place.

The man alleged that his sibling, who had struggled academically, was intentionally stopped from entering the examination hall by the school administration. He claimed this was done in an effort to maintain the institution’s performance statistics.

The post quickly went viral, drawing strong reactions from netizens. While some expressed concern and sympathy, others questioned the accuracy of the account and urged caution over unverified claims circulating online.

Commenters noted that marking a student as “absent” for a national examination typically involves formal procedures and documentation, and would usually trigger immediate follow-up from school authorities and examination officials.

Some also raised doubts about how the student’s family appeared unaware of the official SPM timetable, which is normally distributed to all candidates well in advance.

Others speculated that the student may have provided incomplete or misleading information about the situation, suggesting possible academic or disciplinary issues behind the claim.

As of now, neither the school nor its principal has been identified publicly, and no official statement has been issued to verify the allegations.
