A woman was left shocked after she was forced to pay a food bill exceeding RM500 when a man she was on a date with allegedly left the restaurant and failed to return.
The woman shared her experience through a Threads post under the account @Senjaaaa.j, claiming that the man had introduced himself as a doctor.
According to her, the dinner was not planned, and both of them initially agreed to have Western food. However, the man later suggested going to a more upscale restaurant with fewer customers.
She said she had asked whether he was comfortable with the restaurant choice, especially regarding the prices, but the man assured her that it was fine and mentioned that the location was near the hospital where he worked.
However, during the date, the man allegedly gave an excuse that he needed to briefly leave to hand over an item to his friend, before disappearing and failing to return.
“He suddenly said he wanted to give something to his friend and never showed up again. In the end, I had to pay for everything and return home alone,” she wrote in her post.
The woman said she later sent him a message showing the total bill and requested that he pay for his share of the meal.
The incident sparked reactions from social media users, with many criticising the man’s alleged actions and reminding others to be cautious when meeting someone for the first time.
Some users advised people to avoid choosing expensive restaurants during early dates to prevent being left with unexpected bills or falling victim to similar situations.
