Woman Sparks Online Debate Over RM12 Late-Night Delivery Fee for Sahur

Date:

A woman has stirred online discussion after complaining about a RM12 late-night delivery fee, claiming it ruined her mood for sahur.

In a post on Threads, @dizzygirl____ wrote, “Even at night the delivery is RM12??? It really makes me lose the mood to have sahur if it’s like this.”

However, many Malaysians quickly defended the riders, highlighting the dangers and sacrifices of working late-night shifts. User havnoheart commented, “RM12 is not too much. Not many riders are willing to work at night. Riding a motorbike in the dark is risky, with potential criminals, quiet roads, and long searches for addresses. If you want it cheaper, go out yourself or have instant noodles. Think about their effort too.”

Others pointed out that customers pay for convenience. Airdrenna said, “The price makes sense. You wouldn’t go out at 4–5am to get your food, but someone else does. Early mornings have surcharges and fewer riders. You’re paying for convenience and their effort.”

User m_syafiqkamis added, “Night shifts in clinics and taxis cost more; it’s reasonable for riders to have a midnight surcharge too.”

Some highlighted rider shortages. Aqeyll_ wrote, “Not all riders want to work after midnight. My order was once delayed because no one was available. That’s why I close at 11pm now.”

A few offered practical solutions or positive perspectives. Atinlisya_ suggested, “Cook at home. Buy sambal and fry eggs—full and cheaper.” Meanwhile, nrfrjanaa_ said, “I order late sometimes and tip the rider. Alhamdulillah for their effort.”

The debate reflects the tension between convenience for customers and the challenges faced by late-night delivery riders.
