World War III Survival Guide: 8 Countries Experts Say Could Keep You Safe

Date:

In the terrifying hypothetical scenario of World War III, some countries may offer better chances of survival than others. According to News.com.au, experts have identified eight nations that could serve as ideal refuges based on the Global Peace Index, geography, military alliances, neutrality policies, and civil defense infrastructure.

Topping the list is Switzerland, long famous for its military neutrality. Its mountainous terrain makes it naturally defensible, and the country boasts more fallout shelters than residents, many equipped with independent water and power systems ready for immediate use in the event of a nuclear conflict.

Iceland, though without a standing army and of low strategic significance, is self-sufficient thanks to its robust geothermal and hydropower systems, providing energy independence even during global crises.

In South America, countries like Argentina and Paraguay sit far from major Eurasian and North American conflict zones. Their expansive farmlands and reliable food supply could sustain populations if global trade were disrupted.

Mongolia, nestled between Russia and China, has limited strategic value and retains traditional nomadic lifestyles that allow for self-sufficient living, making it more resilient in wartime.

Remote Pacific islands like Fiji are thousands of miles from Australia and other potential conflict zones. Despite their isolation, they maintain basic infrastructure and food resources, offering long-term survival potential.

New Zealand, with its low population, developed agriculture, and geographic isolation, is considered a safe haven with minimal risk of attack and stable living conditions.

Finally, Madagascar, located off the coast of Africa, combines geographic isolation with low strategic importance, making it another relatively safe refuge during global conflicts.

Experts emphasize that these countries share key characteristics: geographic isolation, strong self-sufficiency, and political neutrality—factors that could minimize risk and increase chances of survival in a worldwide war.
