Adele to Make Acting Debut in Tom Ford’s New Film ‘Cry to Heaven’

Date:

Grammy-winning singer Adele is set to make her acting debut in Tom Ford’s upcoming film Cry to Heaven, marking her first major move from music to the big screen.

The movie — adapted from Anne Rice’s 1982 novel — is set in the opulent yet brutal 18th-century world of the castrati, male singers who were castrated to preserve their high-pitched voices.

Adele will join an impressive cast that includes Nicholas Hoult, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Colin Firth, Paul Bettany, and Adolescence breakout star Owen Cooper. Other confirmed cast members are Ciarán Hinds, George MacKay, Mark Strong, Hunter Schafer, and Thandiwe Newton, according to Deadline.

While Adele’s role has not yet been revealed, anticipation is high as fans await her first on-screen performance.

Ford — who will direct, produce, and write the film — has previously received critical acclaim for A Single Man (2009) and Nocturnal Animals (2016), both of which earned multiple award nominations.

The acclaimed designer-turned-director sold his fashion label to Estée Lauder for US$2.8 billion (£2.4 billion) in 2022, announcing his intention to leave fashion behind and “spend the next 20 years making films.”

“I loved making the two films that I made. That was the most fun I’ve ever had in my entire life,” Ford told GQ.

Adele, whose last album was released in 2021, has been largely out of the spotlight since completing her Las Vegas residency last year. The singer previously said she planned to take “a big break” to focus on other creative pursuits — a promise now fulfilled with her leap into acting.
