Barry Manilow Cancels January Shows After Early Lung Cancer Diagnosis

Date:

Barry Manilow is postponing his January arena concerts after announcing a recent lung cancer diagnosis. The 82-year-old singer shared on social media that following six weeks of bronchitis and a subsequent relapse, an MRI revealed a cancerous spot on his left lung that requires removal.

“Thanks to luck and a great doctor, it was caught early,” Manilow wrote. He is scheduled for surgery in late December and will follow it with a month-long recovery. Doctors do not believe the cancer has spread, so no chemotherapy or radiation is planned.

Manilow apologized to fans for having to reschedule the January shows, which are now planned from February through April. He encouraged his followers to get medical checkups if they experience even minor symptoms.

Despite the news, Manilow remains in good spirits, joking about relying on chicken soup and I Love Lucy reruns during recovery.
