Celebrity Chef Apologises Over Comments on People Rushing Home After Work During Ramadan

Date:

Celebrity chef Professor Datuk Zamzani Abdul Wahab, popularly known as Chef Zam, has expressed surprise at the intense reactions to a social media post he made recently, which drew criticism from netizens, particularly during the holy month of Ramadan.

Chef Zam noted that some comments were harsh and disrespectful, highlighting how little patience some people show over seemingly minor issues.

“As a few words can provoke so much anger and even insults, it’s disheartening. Some messages included swearing and curses, even from young mothers and daughters whose profiles suggest piety,” he said, adding that several fake accounts had long targeted social media users with offensive remarks.

The backlash followed Chef Zam’s remarks about people rushing home immediately after work during Ramadan. Many interpreted his comments as insensitive to household responsibilities, while others criticised him for speaking out despite his status and success.

Clarifying his intentions, Chef Zam explained that his use of the word “menggeletis” was meant to convey “hurrying” or “rushing,” but it was misunderstood, triggering anger among readers.

“I apologise if my choice of words caused frustration or offended anyone. It was not my intention,” he said, noting that his post was meant to gauge public reactions to a common situation.

Chef Zam remains confident in handling criticism, noting that as a seasoned celebrity chef, he has learned to deal with differing opinions on social media, even when they come in extreme forms.
