Singer and actor Cha Eun-woo will begin his mandatory military service on Monday, according to his agency, Fantagio. The 28-year-old star, a member of the K-pop group Astro, will serve in the South Korean Army’s brass band following five weeks of basic training at a military boot camp.
On the eve of his enlistment, Cha connected with fans through a heartfelt YouTube livestream. Reflecting on his departure, he described the moment as “surreal” and mentioned that his new military buzz cut was the shortest hairstyle he’s had since childhood.
“I will come back safe and healthy,” he reassured fans. “Wishing all the best for every one of you.”
In South Korea, all able-bodied men are required to complete between 18 and 21 months of military service.
