A viral video showing a tech CEO and his head of HR caught in an unexpected embrace at a Coldplay concert is making waves online—fast. The clip, captured on the venue’s “kiss cam” at Gillette Stadium in Massachusetts, appears to show Astronomer CEO Andy Byron with his arms around the company’s head of people, Kristin Cabot, before both quickly pulled apart with startled expressions as the crowd watched.
Even Coldplay frontman Chris Martin couldn’t help but joke, suggesting they were “either having an affair or just very shy.”
The moment has since exploded across X and TikTok, racking up tens of millions of views and sparking everything from memes to mock-investigations. Comments like “Scandoval for people who can’t attach a PDF to an email” and “God forbid you viva la vida loca” have dominated the online chatter.
Meanwhile, Astronomer, a data optimization startup valued at $775 million as of its recent Series D funding round, has gone radio silent. The company, along with Byron and Cabot, has declined to comment. All LinkedIn and X comments have been disabled on their posts as social media users continue flooding them with reactions.
Even former CEO and co-founder Ry Walker weighed in, clarifying on X that he’s no longer with the company and has “no information on ColdplayGate.” Others, like Flexport founder Ryan Petersen, joked the incident might’ve brought more publicity than any marketing campaign—suggesting the board give Byron a raise.
Still, not everyone sees the humor. HR consultant Kate Walker told Business Insider that “a hard launch of a workplace romantic relationship at a Coldplay concert is not the best way to go about it.”
Byron, who became CEO in July 2023, hired Cabot later that year, praising her “exceptional leadership” and HR expertise in a press release. Now, the internet is pouring over their LinkedIn profiles, old interviews, and even betting on Byron’s future. On Polymarket, over $35,000 has been wagered on whether he’ll remain CEO, with another $30,000 riding on his marital status.
As for Astronomer’s workplace relationship policy? That, too, remains under wraps.
