Cristiano Ronaldo is opening up about his proposal to fiancée Georgina Rodríguez, revealing the intimate details behind the moment and her reaction to the jaw-dropping engagement ring.
The 40-year-old Portuguese soccer superstar shared with Piers Morgan that while the colossal ring—estimated at over $5 million—was impressive, it wasn’t what mattered most to his partner. “One thing that I love, she didn’t care about the ring,” Ronaldo recalled. “She asked me if I was honest, and I said, ‘I want you and I want to marry you.’”
Ronaldo, whose engagement to the 31-year-old Argentinian model was announced in August after eight years together, admitted he was emotional during the proposal. “I didn’t cry, but I had tears in my eyes,” he said.
The star revealed that the ring itself was carefully chosen with Georgina’s tastes in mind. “She asked me for a ring to offer her because it was one of her dreams to have a good stone,” Ronaldo said. “I work hard, work hard, and finally I found what she loved.”
Though not typically a romantic, Ronaldo explained that the timing felt right, even if it was unplanned. “It was like 1 a.m. My daughters were in bed sleeping. One of my friends gave me the ring to offer Gio, and as I was giving her the ring, my two kids come in and say, ‘Daddy, you’re going to give the ring to mum and you’re going to ask her to get married.’ That was the sign I needed. I knew it was the right moment.”
Ronaldo added that he made a heartfelt, simple speech during the proposal. “I’m not a very romantic guy—not the kind who brings flowers every week—but I’m romantic in my own way. It was beautiful, and I knew she’s the woman of my life.”
When asked about wedding plans, Ronaldo said the couple wants a private celebration. “Not yet. We plan to do it after the World Cup with the trophy! She’s not someone who likes big parties. She likes private things, so I will respect these decisions,” he explained.
Rodríguez’s ring made headlines when the engagement was announced on August 11, 2025, impressing fans worldwide. Experts say the oval center stone alone could be around 35 carats, with the full platinum-set ring totaling approximately 37 carats.
