G-Dragon Named UNESCO World Heritage Committee Honorary Ambassador

Date:

K-pop star G-Dragon has been appointed honorary ambassador for the 48th session of the UNESCO World Heritage Committee, which is set to take place in Busan later this July, according to the Korea Heritage Service.

The agency said the appointment recognises G-Dragon’s global cultural influence beyond K-pop, as well as his contributions to the arts and his involvement in promoting social awareness through creative expression.

In his role as ambassador, G-Dragon will support initiatives aimed at protecting World Heritage sites, including appearing in promotional campaigns and events that promote the message of “peace through culture and participation”.

Separately, the Heritage in Peace campaign will be launched in collaboration with UNESCO on July 10, encouraging participation from citizens, businesses and cities in efforts to safeguard heritage sites worldwide.

Funds raised through the campaign will be channelled into the World Heritage Fund, which supports the protection of sites threatened by conflict, climate change and natural disasters.

G-Dragon has previously represented South Korea on the international stage, including serving as ambassador for the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit held in Gyeongju in 2025, where he also performed at a gala dinner.

The upcoming 48th session of the UNESCO World Heritage Committee will run in Busan from July 19 to 29, marking the first time South Korea is hosting the event since joining the World Heritage Convention in 1988.
