Hong Kong Star Simon Yam Arrives in Kuching for Aiffa 2025

Date:

Renowned Hong Kong actor and producer Simon Yam arrived in Kuching last night to attend the Asean International Film Festival and Awards (Aiffa) 2025, where he will be this year’s star celebrity guest.

The three-day festival, which runs until Saturday, celebrates excellence in Asean cinema and brings together filmmakers, actors, and industry professionals from across the region.

During his stay, Yam will visit several of Sarawak’s cultural landmarks, including the Sarawak Cultural Village and the Borneo Cultures Museum. On Saturday, he is scheduled to take a river cruise along the Kuching Waterfront, followed by a press conference.

Fans will have a chance to meet him during a public meet-and-greet session at the Godown Amphitheatre at 4pm the same day. Yam will also attend the Aiffa 2025 Gala Night, a ticketed showcase celebrating Asean’s finest films and performers.

Among those who welcomed the veteran actor at Kuching International Airport last night were Dr Suzie Lim Swee Yian, head of the Management Services Division at the Ministry of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts, and Aiffa 2025 executive director Shah Sidek.

Yam, who began his career in Hong Kong television in the 1970s before transitioning to film, made his Hollywood debut in Lara Croft: Tomb Raider – The Cradle of Life (2003) alongside Angelina Jolie.

Today’s Aiffa highlights include a scriptwriting masterclass with Erma Fatima, and an acting workshop led by Vanida Imran and Assoc Prof Dr Aminah Rhapor at the Borneo Cultures Museum. — The Borneo Post
