Veteran Hong Kong actor Benz Hui, affectionately known as “Benz哥,” has passed away at the age of 76. His family, through close friend Lai Chi Shan, confirmed that Hui succumbed to multiple organ failure caused by cancer in the early hours today.
Benz Hui was celebrated for his versatile acting across decades, leaving a lasting impression with roles such as “Huan Xi Ge” in Line Walker, “Fong Chung Sir” in the Armed Reaction series, “Wong Kai-Fat” in The Darkest Combat, and “Uncle Dong” in New Police Cadet. Despite often playing supporting roles, his performances were deeply memorable, earning him the title of “King of Supporting Roles.”
In recent years, Hui had reduced his acting projects and moved with his family to Singapore for a semi-retired life. Known for being a devoted father, he had invested heavily—over tens of millions HKD—supporting his daughter Charmaine’s business ventures, including multiple cafes and bakeries in Singapore. Following her marriage to Shane Sim in late 2023, Hui focused on family and supporting her career.
Off-screen, Hui was a “hidden tycoon,” owning a luxurious 4,000 sq ft mansion in Singapore valued at over S$2 million. Though he occasionally returned to Hong Kong for cameo appearances, Hui largely enjoyed a private life devoted to family.
Fans, colleagues, and friends have expressed their grief at the loss of a consummate actor and kind-hearted figure whose contributions to Hong Kong cinema and television have left an indelible mark.
