Jacob Elordi Is Unrecognizable as ‘The Creature’ in Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein

Date:

Netflix has unveiled the first official look at Jacob Elordi as “The Creature” in Guillermo del Toro’s upcoming adaptation of Frankenstein, now playing in select theaters and set to premiere globally on Netflix this November 7.

The 26-year-old Australian actor stars as Mary Shelley’s reanimated monster opposite Oscar Isaac as Victor Frankenstein. Joining the cast are Mia Goth, Felix Kammerer, and Christoph Waltz, whose striking portraits in character were released on Netflix’s social media on Friday, Oct. 24.

Earlier teasers and posters had only hinted at Elordi’s shocking transformation, but the new images reveal him completely unrecognizable — pale and cadaverous, with deep scars etched across his skin and long, tangled hair befitting the tragic creature.

Speaking to Variety in August, Elordi described the intense process behind his transformation, which required 10 hours in the makeup chair. “You throw time away when you make a film like this,” he said. “I didn’t do breakfast, lunch, or dinner, or think in terms of morning, afternoon, night — it was just one time.”

Director Guillermo del Toro, 61, praised Elordi’s dedication: “He never once complained. Never said, ‘I’m tired,’ or ‘I’m hungry.’ He gave 20-hour days without hesitation.”

The cast and crew, including Del Toro, Elordi, Isaac, and Goth, recently appeared together at a special screening in New York on October 20.

Reflecting on the role, Elordi shared, “Playing The Creature changed me fundamentally — it changed how I approach performance and even how I watch films.”

Del Toro, meanwhile, told PEOPLE at the Toronto International Film Festival that Elordi’s striking looks were never a concern when casting him. “I was actually elated to have found him,” he said. “All it took was watching Saltburn — he’s magnificent. The soulfulness in his eyes is just overwhelming.”

Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein promises a haunting and deeply human reimagining of Shelley’s classic tale — one where beauty, horror, and heartbreak are brought vividly to life.
