Hollywood stars Jennifer Lawrence and Emma Stone are set to bring the iconic Muppets character Miss Piggy to the big screen in a new Disney film. The announcement came during Lawrence’s appearance on the podcast Las Culturistas, hosted by Bowen Yang and Matt Rogers, where the Oscar-winning actress revealed she and Stone are producing the project, with Cole Escola attached as the screenwriter.
“This is the first time Emma and I are producing together… and it’s a Miss Piggy movie,” Lawrence shared. When asked if they would star in it, Lawrence confirmed, “I think so. We have to… It’s f—ed up that we haven’t done a movie together.”
The upcoming film marks Miss Piggy’s first solo feature. The beloved Muppets diva, created in the 1970s by Bonnie Erickson and Frank Oz, first appeared onscreen in The Muppet’s Wizard of Oz in 1974.
Lawrence, 35, is currently promoting her new psychological thriller Die My Love, which hits theaters on November 7. The film, directed by Lynn Ramsay and based on Ariana Harwicz’s 2017 novel, stars Lawrence alongside Robert Pattinson, LaKeith Stanfield, Sissy Spacek, and Nick Nolte, exploring her character’s emotional journey after moving from New York City to rural Montana.
This collaboration with Stone also marks a milestone for the longtime friends, who have never shared a film together. Lawrence joked about the long-awaited partnership, emphasizing the excitement of finally working with Stone on a project celebrating one of Hollywood’s most legendary divas.
Lawrence also has other projects lined up, including The Wives, a murder mystery inspired by the Real Housewives reality franchise.
