As millions of Americans face the loss of food assistance amid the ongoing U.S. government shutdown, Jimmy Kimmel Live! has stepped up to help by launching the “Big, Beautiful Food Bank” in Los Angeles.
Announced on Tuesday, the late-night show’s initiative aims to support families impacted by disruptions to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP).
“Cutting SNAP benefits creates uncertainty for American children, seniors, and families,” the show’s team shared on Instagram. “To support our community members in need, we’re starting a donation center in our Hollywood backlot.”
The food bank will collect donations for the Los Angeles Food Bank and the St. Joseph Center, providing meals and essential supplies to those affected.
Over 42 million Americans rely on SNAP, and officials warn that if the shutdown continues, funding may not be sufficient to cover November benefits.
Ronald Ward, Acting Associate Administrator of SNAP’s Food and Nutrition Service, cautioned in an October letter that the program faces “insufficient funds to pay full November SNAP benefits” should the budget impasse persist.
The Jimmy Kimmel Live! team encouraged both locals and fans nationwide to contribute, either by donating in person at the Hollywood site or supporting their nearest food banks.
