Malaysian actor Datuk Aaron Aziz has denied claims that he is no longer willing to accept television drama offers, clarifying that he is instead becoming more selective with the roles he takes on.
The 50-year-old actor, whose real name is Aaron Mustapha Aziz, explained that he prefers scripts with stronger storytelling and is no longer interested in repetitive or cliché character arcs.
He said he is tired of being offered similar roles, particularly storylines involving predictable romance plots. However, he stressed that he is still open to acting in quality productions that offer something fresh.
“Bukan saya kata saya tak nak buat drama cuma kalau boleh saya tak nak pegang watak yang macam dulu,” he was quoted as saying, adding that he is currently involved in a 50-episode drama project.
Beyond script quality, Aaron also revealed that he is increasingly cautious about on-screen physical interactions. He said he prefers to avoid scenes involving physical contact, especially as he is now in his 50s.
He added that if physical interaction is required, it should be done with appropriate boundaries and professionalism, emphasising his personal comfort and discipline on set.
“I’m already in my 50s. Maybe it’s time to be more mindful,” he said, noting that life priorities and personal values have changed with age.
Despite his preferences, Aaron said he does not want to limit his opportunities, acknowledging that good roles are still worth considering.
At the same time, he praised the growth of the local drama industry, particularly with the rise of OTT streaming platforms. He said this development has expanded opportunities not only for actors but also for new talent and production crews, allowing more creative content to be produced.
