Michelle Yeoh to Receive Hollywood Walk of Fame Star, Making History for Malaysia

Date:

Malaysian Oscar-winning actress Michelle Yeoh is set to be honoured with the 2,836th star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame next Wednesday (Feb 18) in front of the iconic Grauman’s Chinese Theatre.

“Michelle’s extraordinary talent, grace, and groundbreaking career have left an indelible mark on the entertainment industry. Her star honours a trailblazer whose work continues to inspire audiences worldwide,” said Walk of Fame producer Ana Martinez in a statement.

Yeoh will be recognised in the Motion Pictures category. The ceremony will be emceed by American filmmaker Jon M. Chu, who collaborated with Yeoh on Crazy Rich Asians and the Wicked films, alongside Taiwanese director Ang Lee, famed for the 2000 wuxia classic Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, which starred Yeoh. Emmy-winning entertainment journalist Jenelle Riley will also join as a guest speaker.

In 2023, Yeoh made history as the first Asian actor to win the Academy Award for Best Actress for her acclaimed role in Everything Everywhere All At Once, becoming the first Malaysian to achieve both an Oscar nomination and win. The performance also earned her Golden Globe and Screen Actors Guild awards, while the film became A24’s highest-grossing title at the time.

Yeoh first rose to global fame through Hong Kong action films in the 1990s before achieving international acclaim with blockbusters such as Crazy Rich Asians, the highest-grossing romantic comedy in the US in over a decade.

Her recent work includes the Wicked adaptation and its sequel Wicked: For Good, where she portrays Madame Morrible. Beyond acting, Yeoh was named Time Magazine’s Icon of the Year in 2022 and has served as a Goodwill Ambassador for the United Nations Development Programme since 2016, advocating for environmental awareness and support.

Looking ahead, Yeoh stars in the drama short Sandiwara, directed by Sean Baker and shot entirely on an iPhone, set to premiere at the 76th Berlin International Film Festival on Feb 13, 2026. She will also return to Chinese-language cinema with the upcoming Miss Rubik’s Cube, slated for release later this year.
