Korean-Canadian singer Mark Lee will officially leave both NCT and its agency SM Entertainment after deciding not to renew his exclusive contract, the company announced on April 3.
The decision, which was reached after discussions between Mark and SM Entertainment, will take effect on April 8, marking the end of his activities with the group, including participation in sub-units NCT 127 and NCT Dream.
SM Entertainment said the move was mutually agreed upon after a long period of careful consideration regarding his future career direction.
The announcement came as a surprise to fans, as no prior details about his contract duration or any indication of departure had been made public.
Mark, 26, debuted with NCT in 2016 and is widely recognised as one of the group’s key members throughout its various sub-unit activities.
Following his departure, SM Entertainment confirmed that NCT 127 will continue as a seven-member group, while NCT Dream will promote as a six-member lineup.
The company added that it will continue supporting the remaining members and their future activities, while expressing gratitude to fans for their continued support.
