Netflix is set to bring Scooby-Doo to live-action television for the first time, with filming scheduled to begin in April 2026.
The upcoming series, produced by Warner Bros. Television in partnership with Netflix, was first announced in March 2025 and marks a new milestone for the long-running franchise, which has previously existed only in animated form on TV and in early-2000s live-action films.
Writers and showrunners Josh Appelbaum and Scott Rosenberg are leading the project through their Midnight Radio banner, with Greg Berlanti also serving as an executive producer. While Netflix has not confirmed the official title, production documents have referred to the series as Scooby-Doo: Origins, hinting that the story will explore how Mystery Inc first formed.
The eight-episode season will reimagine the classic characters through an origin story set during the group’s final summer at camp. Shaggy and Daphne become drawn into a strange case involving a missing Great Dane puppy, joined by the sharp-witted Velma and a mysterious newcomer named Freddy. Their investigation soon turns dark, uncovering secrets that could change everything they know.
Unlike earlier, more comedic adaptations, the series is expected to take on a more suspenseful and emotional tone, similar to Stranger Things, while still staying true to the spirit of Scooby-Doo.
Filming will take place in Atlanta, Georgia, and is expected to continue into late 2026. Casting has yet to be announced, but the production is reportedly looking for age-appropriate actors to play the teenage characters.
Based on the current schedule, the series is expected to premiere on Netflix in 2027.
