A new biography on Prince Harry, claiming that Queen Camilla allegedly said he had been “brainwashed” by his wife Meghan Markle, has been slammed by the couple’s spokesperson as a “deranged conspiracy.”
Harry and Meghan, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, have remained estranged from the British royal family since stepping back from official duties in 2020 and relocating to California, yet continue to attract widespread media attention in the UK and internationally.
Excerpts from the biography, written by Tom Bower, a veteran royal biographer, suggest that tensions between the couple and the rest of the royal family began soon after their 2018 wedding. According to Bower, Harry has had minimal contact with his father, King Charles III, in recent years.
The book claims that Prince William and his wife, Kate, were concerned about Meghan’s influence on Harry and perceived her as a threat. “Meghan’s brainwashed Harry,” Camilla reportedly told a friend, according to Bower.
The biography also touches on Harry’s reaction to the scandal surrounding his uncle, Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, who lost his titles and home due to his connection to the late US convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. Harry reportedly feared a similar fate within his own family.
In a strongly worded statement, Harry and Meghan’s spokesperson criticised Bower’s work, saying his “commentary has long crossed the line from criticism into fixation.” The spokesperson added, “Those interested in facts will look elsewhere; those seeking deranged conspiracy and melodrama know exactly where to find him.”
Buckingham Palace declined to comment on behalf of King Charles and Queen Camilla, while representatives for Prince William and Kate did not immediately respond.
