Robert Pattinson revealed that the extreme desert heat nearly made him incapable of thinking while filming Dune: Part Three. In a recent interview with IndieWire published Monday, Nov. 3, the 39-year-old actor described how the scorching temperatures left his brain “completely offline.”
“When I was doing Dune, it was so hot in the desert that I just couldn’t question anything,” Pattinson said. “It was so relaxing, like my brain actually wasn’t operating. I did not have a single functioning brain cell. I was just listening to Denis [Villeneuve], ‘Whatever you want!’”
The Twilight star also confirmed that he will be playing a villain in the sequel, reportedly a character named Scytale. Pattinson joins new cast members Nakoa-Wolf Momoa and Ida Brooke, who portray the twin children of Paul Atreides (Timothée Chalamet) and Chani (Zendaya), alongside returning stars Jason Momoa, Josh Brolin, Florence Pugh, Rebecca Ferguson, and Anya Taylor-Joy. The film is directed by Denis Villeneuve and is based on Frank Herbert’s iconic Dune novels.
Pattinson isn’t the only cast member to comment on the harsh conditions. Austin Butler, who played Feyd-Rautha in Dune: Part Two, described filming in 110-degree heat as “like a microwave,” with some crew members passing out from heatstroke. Zendaya also shared she experienced heatstroke while avoiding water on set to minimize bathroom breaks, which were far away.
Pattinson’s upcoming projects include The Drama, starring Zendaya, set for release in April, and Die My Love with Jennifer Lawrence, hitting theaters this Friday, Nov. 7.
