Taiwanese model-turned-actress Jiang Ping has once again captured public attention after appearing on the popular talk show News Digging (新聞挖挖哇) to discuss the harrowing circumstances surrounding her divorce. Despite the passage of time, Jiang’s willingness to share her story highlights the deep-seated trauma caused by a double betrayal involving her former husband and her own mother.
Jiang revealed that she defied her family’s wishes at the age of 21 to marry a screenwriter 12 years her senior. While the initial years of the marriage were stable, the relationship soured after five years. Jiang’s father had originally cautioned her against the union, expressing doubts about the man’s character—a warning that proved tragically prophetic seven years into the marriage when her husband began subjected her to verbal abuse and sexual withdrawal.
The situation reached a breaking point when Jiang confronted her then-husband about his suspected infidelity. In a shocking revelation, he claimed he could “take care of both mother and daughter at once,” confirming an affair with Jiang’s mother. The betrayal was compounded by the fact that the illicit encounters reportedly took place in Jiang’s own home while she was occupied with feeding their young son in another room.
Seeking confirmation, Jiang rushed to her parents’ home to confront her mother, who responded by silhouetting her daughter and closing the door on her. To shield her father from the devastating truth, Jiang initially kept the affair a secret, though he eventually discovered the betrayal and was deeply wounded. Following the discovery, Jiang and her mother became total strangers, only crossing paths briefly at a grandmother’s funeral without exchanging a single word.
Despite the initial heartbreak, Jiang admitted she continued to fulfil her marital obligations for a period, erroneously believing she could overcome the trauma. She eventually sought a divorce to preserve her mental health and exit the toxic environment. Now in her late 40s or early 50s, Jiang noted that her ex-husband’s health has significantly declined, leaving their son as his primary caregiver. In a final show of resilience, Jiang stated she remains willing to assist with his care solely to alleviate the burden on her son.
