According to an exclusive report from The Hollywood Reporter, Neal H. Moritz — best known as the powerhouse producer behind The Fast and the Furious franchise — is in talks with Paramount to lead a new live-action Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles film. Moritz is expected to produce alongside Original Films co-founder Toby Ascher.
The development comes as the newly restructured Paramount continues reshaping the future of the iconic TMNT brand. One of the most notable shake-ups occurred earlier this year when the studio abruptly cancelled Tales of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, the planned spinoff of Mutant Mayhem. Production was halted halfway through, and the series was officially scrapped.
Showrunner Christopher Yost confirmed the cancellation on Threads, noting, “The upcoming episodes of Tales of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles will sadly be the last. Luckily, they’re our best episodes yet.”
Insiders also revealed that The Last Ronin — an R-rated adaptation of the bestselling TMNT graphic novel — was quietly shut down. Director Ilya Naishuller had reportedly been in talks to lead the project, but Paramount’s new leadership was said to be uninterested in launching the franchise’s first live-action film in a decade with a darker, adult-focused tone. Another source, however, claimed the studio may revisit the idea in the future.
Despite the wave of cancellations, at least one major project remains on track: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem 2, from Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg, and Jeff Rowe, is still slated for release on September 17, 2027.
