Netflix is bringing the massively popular Korean web series Solo Leveling into the world of live-action—and fans have every reason to be excited. The streaming giant has officially announced the adaptation, casting breakout star Byeon Woo-seok as the lead in what promises to be a visually stunning and action-packed series.
Solo Leveling, originally a web novel on KakaoPage, has grown into a global entertainment juggernaut. With its transformation into a webtoon, anime series, and even a video game, the franchise has captivated audiences worldwide, amassing over 14.3 billion views globally. Now, it’s gearing up to make its live-action debut with Netflix at the helm.
The story follows Sung Jin-woo, an underdog E-rank Hunter in a world where humans battle supernatural threats emerging from mysterious Gates. After a near-death encounter, Jin-woo gains the power to level up beyond all known limits—becoming humanity’s last line of defense against increasingly dangerous monsters.
The character of Sung Jin-woo will be portrayed by Byeon Woo-seok, one of South Korea’s most in-demand actors today. Known for his performances in 20th Century Girl and Lovely Runner, Woo-seok has earned the nickname “만찢남,” which translates to “a man straight out of a comic book”—a fitting title for a role rooted in the world of manhwa and fantasy.
The live-action adaptation is being co-directed by acclaimed filmmakers Lee Hae-jun and Kim Byung-seo, whose credits include Ashfall, Castaway on the Moon, and Cold Eyes. Production will be handled by Kakao Entertainment in collaboration with SANAI PICTURES, promising high production value and dynamic storytelling. A top-tier global VFX team has also been brought on board to recreate the show’s epic dungeons, magical monsters, and jaw-dropping battle scenes.
Following the anime’s sweeping success at the 2025 Crunchyroll Anime Awards—where it took home nine major awards including Anime of the Year—Netflix’s Solo Leveling live-action is poised to set a new benchmark for adaptations. With Byeon Woo-seok leading the charge and an experienced creative team behind the scenes, this series is primed to capture hearts and screens alike.
Stay tuned—Solo Leveling is coming soon, only on Netflix.
