Budget 2026: Anwar Breaks 37-Year Streak As Malaysia Finally Spends Less Than It Budgets!

Date:

Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim is on course to achieve a remarkable milestone — breaking a 37-year streak of government overspending.

Although Malaysia’s budget remains in deficit, the latest revised estimates for 2025 indicate that the government will spend RM412.1 billion — RM8.9 billion less than originally budgeted. This marks the first time in nearly four decades that Putrajaya is set to spend below its planned allocation, signaling tighter fiscal discipline under Anwar’s administration.
