Finance Ministry Boosts SARA RM100 System After Surging Transactions

Date:

The Ministry of Finance has boosted the server capacity to handle the surge in transactions for purchases using the RM100 Sumbangan Asas Rahmah (SARA) credit.

Chief Secretary to the Treasury, Datuk Johan Mahmood Merican, said the system upgrade aims to manage the higher transaction volume, especially ahead of the long weekend and Malaysia Day holidays.

At the same time, troubleshooting measures have been implemented to ensure smooth purchases and redemption of the SARA RM100 credit, avoiding issues like incomplete or stalled transactions experienced on Sunday and Monday.

“When we initially set up the system, it could handle 5,000 transactions per minute. We have now increased the capacity to 15,000 transactions. We are confident that this upgrade can manage the load,” he said during a press conference at the ministry today.

Also present was Jeffrey Gerard Perera, Deputy Chairman of DIALOG’s Corporate Social Responsibility initiative, MyKasih.

Johan admitted being surprised by the high transaction volume on the first day of SARA RM100. He noted that yesterday, system capacity was increased to process 20% more transactions than on Sunday. This was reflected in the total value successfully processed, which reached RM66 million compared to RM52.7 million on the program’s first day.

He added that MyKasih continues daily improvements to the system to handle higher transactions, particularly in anticipation of the upcoming weekend.
