The ringgit remained relatively stable against the US dollar as markets continued to assess global economic developments and await fresh cues that could influence currency movements.
Bank Negara Malaysia’s latest available interbank exchange rates showed the ringgit at RM4.0853 to the US dollar at 9am on Oct 6, compared with RM4.0875 the previous trading day.
The central bank’s Kuala Lumpur USD/MYR reference rate was also recorded at 4.0858 on Oct 6, unchanged from the previous day’s reference rate of 4.0858.
Against other major currencies, the ringgit was quoted at RM5.4015 to the pound, RM4.5845 to the euro and RM2.5862 for 100 Japanese yen at 9am on Oct 6. The Singapore dollar was at RM3.1935, while 100 Thai baht stood at RM12.1386.
The ringgit also stood at RM6.5083 for 100 Philippine pesos and RM0.0228 for 100 Indonesian rupiah. These rates provide a broader picture of the local currency’s performance beyond the closely watched US dollar pairing.
BNM publishes its ringgit exchange rates at 9am, noon and 5pm on trading days, making the morning fixing a useful benchmark for tracking the local currency’s daily movement.
For Oct 7, market data available this morning indicated USD/MYR around the 4.08 level, although the latest official BNM 9am rates should be used once published for the definitive daily update.
The ringgit has remained within a relatively narrow range in recent sessions, with USD/MYR data showing the pair closing at around 4.0850 on Oct 6.
