13 Arrested After Armed Riot At Mount Austin Restaurant

Date:

Police have arrested twelve local men and a Vietnamese woman believed to be involved in an armed riot at a restaurant in Taman Mount Austin, Johor Bahru, yesterday.

Johor Bahru Selatan police chief ACP Raub Selamat said the incident occurred around 3 am when two 27-year-old local men were attacked by a group of men aged between 20 and 40.

“All 13 suspects were arrested between 3 am on the same day and 12.40 am last night at various locations in the district,” he said.

“The victims were attacked with metal chairs and meat cleavers, leaving one with injuries to the head, arm, and calf, as well as scratches on the body,” ACP Raub added.

The police chief said the incident, which went viral on social media, is believed to have arisen from a personal debt dispute.

Authorities are still tracking down other suspects involved in the case and have seized seven mobile phones, a knife, and clothing used during the incident for investigation.

Seven of the arrested suspects have prior criminal and drug-related records, while six tested positive for ketamine.

The 12 male suspects have been remanded for seven days, while the Vietnamese woman has been remanded for three days starting today.
