Tragedy struck on the morning of the ninth day of the Lunar New Year when a 13-year-old secondary school student fell to her death from a building in the Krystal Heights flats, Sri Derima.

The victim, Chen Meixin (phonetic), was a student at Sekolah Menengah Jenis Kebangsaan Union and had just advanced to secondary level this year. At the time of the incident, she was wearing her school tracksuit and shoes. Today marked the third day of school following the Lunar New Year holiday.
Authorities reported that the girl was not a resident of the Krystal Heights flats; her identity card listed her address in a flat in the Sungai Layar area.
There were no witnesses to the fall. Local residents discovered her body and called the police at 9:01am. When officers arrived, they found her black school bag beside her.
The girl fell from an upper floor of the building. Preliminary observations suggest her body struck an Astro satellite dish on the higher floor before landing on the ground, where a damaged dish was seen.
Her father arrived at the scene at 10:15am. Overcome with grief, he identified his daughter and cried out her name, struggling to come to terms with the sudden loss.
The police have launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
