A 14-year-old boy charged with the murder of his schoolmate at SMK Bandar Utama Damansara (4) has been declared fit to stand trial and capable of mounting his own defence, following a psychiatric assessment at Hospital Bahagia Ulu Kinta.
The boy’s lawyer, Kitson Foong, confirmed the development after a case mention before Magistrate Amira Sariaty Zainal today. “The psychiatric report has been completed, and both the court and the psychiatrist found that the accused is capable of defending himself,” he said.
The court set the next mention for February 6. Foong added that the boy is currently held at the Puncak Alam Correctional Centre, where the court has ordered that all prescribed medication be administered at specific times, and that treatment continues without interruption. He is also required to attend monthly counselling and therapy sessions.
The teenager is accused of fatally stabbing his 16-year-old schoolmate in the girls’ toilet at the school between 9.20am and 9.35am on October 14 last year. He faces a murder charge under Section 302 of the Penal Code.
