A 14-year-old boy was killed after the motorcycle he was riding collided with a car at the Jalan Parit Baru intersection in Jeram on Saturday.
The fatal incident, which claimed the teenager’s life, has since gone viral on social media following the circulation of a 13-second closed-circuit television (CCTV) recording capturing the moment of impact.
Kuala Selangor District Police Chief Superintendent Azaharudin Tajudin said preliminary investigations revealed that the victim was riding a Yamaha Y15 motorcycle when he allegedly crashed into a Toyota Vios driven by a 42-year-old woman at the intersection. The driver is believed to have been unable to stop in time before the collision occurred.
“As a result of the impact, the victim sustained severe head injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene,” he said in a statement issued yesterday evening.
The body has been sent to Hospital Tanjong Karang for a post-mortem examination to determine the exact cause of death.
Police are investigating the case under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death by reckless or dangerous driving.
Members of the public with information related to the accident are urged to assist investigations by contacting the Kuala Selangor District Police Headquarters operations room at 03-3289 1222 or visiting the nearest police station.
The tragedy has once again highlighted concerns over road safety at busy intersections and the need for heightened awareness among all road users.
