Eighteen vehicles were destroyed in a bushfire near Masjid Al Mahabah, Taman Bukit Mewah, Johor, yesterday.
The Johor Fire and Rescue Department’s Operations Centre (JBPM) said they received an emergency call at 1.32pm, prompting a team from the Larkin Fire and Rescue Station to be dispatched to the scene.
According to the operations centre, firefighters arrived at the location at 1.45pm to find a bushfire spanning approximately 0.372 hectares, which had spread and engulfed 18 nearby vehicles.
Among the vehicles that were almost completely destroyed — with about 80% damage — were a Hyundai Atoz, Perodua Kancil, Naza Ria, Proton Perdana, Proton Savvy, Perodua Kelisa, a van, and a Proton Saga FLX, along with five other vehicles that could not be identified.
Several other vehicles, including a Proton Saga, BMW E60, Proton Inspira, and Perodua Kelisa, suffered minor damage of approximately 5%.
The fire was fully brought under control at 2.37pm, and firefighting operations concluded at 5.20pm.
The operation involved nine firefighters using two fire absorption units, one initial water supply hose, and three 400-foot hoses, drawing water from fire engines and nearby hydrants.
No casualties were reported in the incident.
