18-Year-Old Arrested at KLIA2 with 4.5kg Meth Hidden in Luggage

Date:

An attempted drug smuggling operation into Sarawak was foiled after a teenage boy, believed to be acting as a transporter, was arrested at Kuala Lumpur International Airport 2 (KLIA2) on Tuesday.

The 18-year-old Malaysian suspect, who is believed to have made several previous smuggling attempts for a fee of RM1,000 per delivery, was detained around 5:10 a.m. by a team from the KLIA District Narcotics Criminal Investigation Division.

“During the inspection, officers discovered five plastic packets containing 4.5 kilograms of methamphetamine inside the suspect’s luggage,” said Selangor Police Chief Datuk Shazeli Kahar at a press conference on Thursday.

The arrest led to a follow-up raid at a condominium in Kuala Lumpur the same afternoon, where two local men were arrested. Police found 89 packets of methamphetamine weighing 86.8 kilograms and a white container with 5.9 kilograms of liquid meth stored at the premises.

Investigations revealed that the two men supplied the drugs to the teenager, and the consignment, believed to have originated from a neighboring country, was intended for distribution in Miri, Sarawak.

One suspect had a prior criminal record, while the other two did not. All tested negative for drug use.

The seized drugs are estimated to be worth RM3.7 million. All suspects have been remanded for seven days under Section 117 of the Criminal Procedure Code and are being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

Authorities also seized a Honda Accord worth RM25,000 under the Dangerous Drugs (Forfeiture of Property) Act 1988.
