A teenager in Lorain, Ohio, was fatally shot in an apparent accidental shooting by a young family member, police say.
Isaac Brocco-Rivera, 18, was found unresponsive in his car near a local park at around 6:45 p.m. on Saturday, October 18, after reportedly being shot in the head. He was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Authorities say initial investigations indicate that the teen was accidentally shot while a relative was handling a gun inside the vehicle.
Lorain Police Captain Jacob Morris said the park was crowded with students taking photos ahead of a senior homecoming dance, a traditional autumn event for graduating students. Detectives recovered a handgun at the scene and later found another weapon at a different location, believed to be the one involved. It has been sent for forensic testing.
A GoFundMe page set up to support Isaac’s family and cover funeral expenses described the tragedy: he “left for his senior homecoming and never made it home.” The fundraiser has raised $19,290 (around RM91,000) of a $20,000 goal (about RM94,000).
Lorain Success Academy, where Isaac was a senior, expressed heartbreak over the loss. Headteacher Dr. Jeff Graham said the school has activated its crisis team and will provide ongoing support to students and staff. He asked the community to keep Isaac’s family in their thoughts during this difficult time.
The incident remains under investigation as authorities continue to piece together the events that led to this devastating accident.
