A college student tragically died in a traffic accident involving a motorcycle and three lorries in Taman Tas on Thursday.
The incident occurred around 4:30pm, claiming the life of 18-year-old Muhammad Hadif Ishak, a student at UCYP Semambu, who was confirmed dead at the scene.
Kuantan District Police Chief, Asisten Komisioner Ashari Abu Samah, said the driver of an ice lorry, aged 33, sustained hand injuries, while the drivers of a cement lorry and a tow truck, aged 25 and 28 respectively, were unharmed.
Initial investigations suggest the accident happened when the cement lorry, traveling from Gambang toward Kuantan town, brushed against the Yamaha LC motorcycle ridden by Muhammad Hadif in the left lane, causing him to fall into the right lane.
The tow truck in the right lane was unable to avoid him and struck the student. An ice lorry approaching from behind could not brake in time and collided with the rear of the tow truck.
As a result of the crash, Muhammad Hadif was pronounced dead at the scene. His body was sent to Hospital Tengku Ampuan Afzan (HTAA) for a post-mortem. The injured ice lorry driver was also taken to the same hospital for treatment.
The fatal accident is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
