2-Month-Old Baby Dies From Suspected Abuse Including A Fractured Spine

Date:

A heartbreaking tragedy has unfolded in Opelousas, Louisiana, where a two-month-old baby girl reportedly died from severe abuse, shocking the local community.

Authorities reported that the infant suffered critical injuries, including broken ribs and a fractured lower spine, as well as severe dehydration and malnutrition, indicating prolonged mistreatment. The baby was rushed to a hospital on October 25 after being found unresponsive, but she was pronounced dead upon arrival.

Investigators discovered that some of the baby’s previous fractures showed signs of healing, suggesting that the abuse may have been ongoing for some time.

The child had been under the exclusive custody of her parents, Kaylee Fontenot and Taylor Broussard, since birth. Both parents now face serious charges, including first-degree murder, child abuse, and second-degree battery. Fontenot was arrested promptly, while Broussard initially went missing for several days after charges were announced, causing public concern.

On November 3, Broussard turned himself in and was taken into custody at St. Landry Parish Jail. Opelousas Police Chief Graig LeBlanc issued a statement:

“Our hearts go out to this baby, who suffered unimaginable abuse. This case is still in its early stages. Our investigators are working tirelessly to uncover every detail, and we urge the public to remain patient and cooperate as we seek justice.”

Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the infant’s death as the community grapples with the devastating news.
