A 20-year-old Chinese national has been remanded until April 24 to assist investigations into a sexual harassment case involving a woman at the Kuchai Lama MRT station walkway.
Brickfields district police chief Assistant Commissioner Hoo Chang Hook said the arrest was made after police received a report on the incident at 9.22pm on Thursday.
The victim, a 23-year-old beauty therapist, claimed she was suddenly hugged from behind by an unknown man while walking along the station’s pedestrian walkway en route to the restroom.
According to police, preliminary investigations found that the suspect had allegedly been following the victim before committing the act.
“The suspect is believed to have trailed the victim before carrying out the offence,” Hoo said in a statement.
The suspect was arrested on the same day and is currently being remanded until April 24 to facilitate further investigations.
The case is being investigated under Section 354 of the Penal Code for assault or use of criminal force with intent to outrage modesty, as well as Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63 for lacking valid travel documents.
In a related development, authorities also reported another recent sexual harassment case involving a transit passenger, where a suspect was arrested within 24 hours following a separate incident at the LRT Kelana Jaya Line.
