A 21-year-old man has lodged a police report alleging that he was slapped by a policeman in civilian attire at a petrol station in Taman Perling, following the circulation of a viral video of the incident.
Police have since launched an internal investigation into the matter. According to the victim, the incident occurred during a routine police inspection while he was riding his motorcycle at about 6.50pm on Jan 11.
Johor Baru (North) police chief Assistant Commissioner Radin Ramlan Radin Taha said the complainant was later brought to the district police headquarters for further checks on his motorcycle.
He added that the case is being investigated under Section 323 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt. If found guilty, the suspect may face a jail term of up to one year, a fine of up to RM2,000, or both.
Radin Ramlan said investigations will be carried out transparently, fairly and with integrity, and urged the public to cooperate with the authorities.
