210g Heroin Uncovered After Perodua Myvi Crashes During Police Chase in Kedah

A woman was killed and her friend seriously injured after the Perodua Myvi they were travelling in lost control and crashed on Jalan Suka Menanti on Tuesday.

Kota Setar District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Syed Basri Syed Ali, said the incident occurred around 8.20pm while police officers were conducting an Op Gempur operation in the area.

He explained that officers had spotted the vehicle acting suspiciously and attempted to intercept it, leading to a chase that ended in the crash.

“As a result of the accident, a 33-year-old woman died at the scene, while the 37-year-old driver sustained serious injuries,” Syed Basri said in a statement on Tuesday.

Further checks at the scene uncovered a plastic bag containing an estimated 210 grams of suspected heroin. The driver was found to have 12 previous records related to drug offences.

The deceased woman’s friend was reported to have three past drug-related offences and one criminal record.

“The body of the deceased has been sent to the Forensic Department at Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital (HSB) for an autopsy, while her friend is receiving treatment at the same hospital,” he added.

Syed Basri noted that investigations are ongoing to determine the pair’s involvement in drug distribution activities. The case is being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 and Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
