A 22-year-old woman was killed after the motorcycle she was riding was hit by a Thai-registered van that allegedly ran a red light in Napoh, near Kubang Pasu, on Tuesday night.
Kubang Pasu district police chief Supt Mohd Radzi Abdul Rahim identified the victim as Fatin Nursyafikah Haris Bawijad, an eatery assistant.
Police received a report of the crash at about 10.30pm. Preliminary investigations found that the van, driven by a 60-year-old Thai national who was travelling towards Satun, Thailand, failed to stop at a red traffic light.
The van collided with the victim’s motorcycle as she was approaching the junction from the left, causing her to suffer severe injuries. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
The van driver was not injured and has been detained to assist in investigations under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
