25-Year-Old Suspect Detained After Fatal Stabbing Of Colleague In Penang

Date:

A 25-year-old Nepali national employed at a duck processing plant has been remanded for seven days to assist in a murder investigation involving the death of his compatriot. The remand order, which remains in effect until 29 March, was granted by Magistrate Savinder Singh Jugindar Singh following the violent incident at a workers’ hostel in Permatang Tinggi. Police are currently investigating the case under Section 302 of the Penal Code, which carries the mandatory death penalty or life imprisonment upon conviction in Malaysia.

The fatal confrontation occurred at approximately 1:10 am today, resulting in the death of a 22-year-old male victim who sustained severe injuries to his torso. Despite being rushed to Bukit Mertajam Hospital for emergency medical intervention, the young worker was pronounced dead while receiving treatment. Initial medical examinations revealed that the victim had suffered a deep stab wound to the rib area, which is believed to be the primary cause of death.

According to preliminary reports, the two men, who were colleagues at the same processing facility, were involved in a heated verbal argument within their shared dormitory earlier in the evening. Following the dispute, the victim reportedly left the room to have a meal. The attack allegedly took place shortly after he had finished eating, when he stepped outside to use the latrine and was suddenly ambushed by the suspect.

Authorities acted swiftly following the report of the assault, successfully apprehending the 25-year-old suspect within the precincts of the workers’ hostel. During the arrest, police officers managed to recover and seize a knife, which is believed to be the weapon used in the commission of the crime. The forensic team has since processed the scene to gather further physical evidence to support the ongoing prosecution.

The body of the deceased has been transferred to the Seberang Jaya Hospital mortuary, where a post-mortem examination will be conducted to determine the official cause of death. Investigating officers are continuing to record statements from other hostel residents to establish the exact motive behind the initial argument and the subsequent escalation to violence. The case has highlighted the need for better conflict resolution support within high-density worker accommodations.
