A 26-year-old man, who was impersonating a delivery rider, died yesterday after a struggle with police when authorities attempted to arrest him for alleged involvement in a robbery and sexual assault at a residence in Wangsa Maju around noon.
The incident occurred at 12:40 PM when the suspect reportedly tried to escape and attacked police officers attempting to apprehend him.
Kuala Lumpur Police Chief, Datuk Fadil Marsus, said authorities received an emergency call regarding a break-in at the location. “Acting on the information, two police officers rushed to the scene and called out to the residents, but received no response,” he said during a press briefing.
“Five minutes later, a man opened the door. The police identified themselves and entered to conduct a check,” he added.
Fadil explained that the suspect, who had 10 previous criminal records related to robbery, suddenly pulled out a meat cleaver and attempted to attack the officers, leading to a struggle.
“The officers managed to dodge the attack, but the suspect punched one officer in the face and bit another on the hand. With the assistance of security personnel, the suspect was eventually restrained,” he said.
After being apprehended, the suspect complained of difficulty breathing. Emergency medical assistance was called, but upon arrival 40 minutes later, the medical team confirmed that he had died.
An autopsy conducted today at Hospital Kuala Lumpur (HKL) revealed that the cause of death is still under investigation, with laboratory reports requested for further clarification. Forensic examination found no visible injuries on the suspect’s body.
Fadil added that during the incident, four local women were present in the residence. The suspect tied the hands of all four victims, locking three of them in the main room. One victim was taken to a second room and sexually assaulted twice, including in the bathroom. All four victims sustained minor injuries to their hands, faces, and bodies.
The suspect also stole RM200 in cash and the victim’s ATM card before carrying out the attacks, said Fadil.
