Three policemen have been arrested over allegations of extortion and sexual coercion involving an 18-year-old female student.
City Deputy Police Chief Datuk Mohamed Usuf Jan Mohamad confirmed that the arrests were made by the City Criminal Investigation Department’s Sexual, Women and Child Investigation Division (D11).
“We have opened investigations under Section 354 and Section 384 of the Penal Code for assault or use of criminal force with intent to outrage modesty, and for extortion. We have also obtained a four-day remand order against the three policemen to facilitate further investigations,” he said.
According to the student’s police report, the incident happened at about 1.10 a.m. on Sept 17 near a food stall in Sentul. She and her boyfriend were allegedly stopped by the policemen, who demanded their identification cards and seized their mobile phones without consent.
Two of the policemen allegedly accessed her boyfriend’s phone and viewed private photos stored on it. The third policeman reportedly separated the student from her boyfriend and claimed the photos amounted to a “serious offence” punishable by a RM10,000 fine or two years’ imprisonment.
She alleged the officer told her the matter could only be “settled” if she paid RM10,000 on the spot or engaged in sexual acts with him. He allegedly threatened that her boyfriend would be detained and her life “ruined” if she refused, proposing repeated sexual encounters including spending the night with him the following day.
The student claimed the officer demanded her phone number under an alias, warned her not to report the incident, and threatened to visit her hostel or home. She further alleged that during the two-hour encounter, the officer molested her by pinching her left breast and retained her MyKad, telling her she would only get it back if she met him again.
The report also stated the policeman promised her money and even an iPhone if she agreed to maintain a sexual relationship with him.
Police investigations are ongoing.
