30-Year-Old M’sian Jailed After Flashing Boys’ Brigade Member In Public Restroom

Date:

A 30-year-old Malaysian man, Logeswaran Raja Kumaran, was sentenced to four weeks’ imprisonment on Thursday (Jan 8) for an act of indecent exposure involving a 15-year-old student. The court proceedings detailed a predatory encounter that was cut short by the victim’s presence of mind and quick action.

The incident occurred on the night of November 14 last year. The victim, a 15-year-old secondary school student, was heading home via public transport after a long day. Dressed in his Boys’ Brigade uniform, the teenager alighted at the Senja Hawker Centre around 9:00 PM to use the public facilities.

As the student approached the restrooms, he observed Logeswaran loitering in the common area between the men’s and women’s toilets. Unbeknownst to the boy, Logeswaran began following him as he entered the men’s washroom, intending to expose himself to the minor.

Once the two were alone inside the facility, Logeswaran approached the boy, flashed him, and began engaging in a sexual act. Disturbed and uncomfortable, the student attempted to distance himself by moving into a toilet cubicle to finish urinating.

In a display of composure, the teenager decided to secure evidence of the offender. After exiting the cubicle, he used his phone to take two photographs of Logeswaran. When the startled man questioned why he was taking photos, the boy remained silent and immediately left the premises to seek help.

The student reported the incident to the police that same evening. He provided one of the photos to the authorities as proof of the encounter before deleting the images from his device. Based on the description and photographic evidence, police tracked down and arrested Logeswaran later that night.

During the hearing, Logeswaran pleaded guilty to one count of intentionally exposing himself for the purpose of sexual gratification.

The prosecution argued for a four-week custodial sentence, highlighting the predatory nature of the offense. The prosecutor noted:

The court heard that the offender’s culpability was heightened by the fact that he followed the minor into a confined space to perform the act. Under Singapore law, the maximum penalty for intentional exposure for sexual gratification includes up to one year in prison, a fine, or both.
