A total of 36 Chinese nationals were brought before the Port Dickson Magistrate’s Court on Monday, facing charges of deceiving victims through fraudulent investment offers.
The accused, consisting of 31 men and five women aged between 21 and 44, had their charges read before Magistrate Mohd Farez Rahman. However, no plea was recorded as none of them understood the Malay language.
According to the charge, the group was accused of conspiring to commit a criminal act by deceiving fellow Chinese nationals through fake investment schemes.
The alleged offence took place at a house in Taman Tanjung, Port Dickson, on August 21, 2025, around 3.30 p.m.
If convicted under Section 420 of the Penal Code and Section 120B(2) of the same Act, the accused could face imprisonment of up to six months, a fine, or both.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Mohamad Azrif Firdaus Mohamad Ali requested that the charges be re-read in Mandarin by an interpreter.
Defense lawyer Chan Kai Ping applied for bail for all accused, but the prosecution objected, arguing there was a high risk of them fleeing.
Azrif pointed out that the accused had no ties to Malaysia such as permanent addresses, jobs, or family. Most also lacked valid travel documents, with expired passports and revoked consular papers due to offences committed in their home country.
The court rejected the bail application and fixed September 12, 2025, for the next mention of the case.
