Police have arrested a TikTok account holder after he uploaded a video containing seditious elements and content deemed insulting to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong and the Malay Rulers.
Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Director Datuk M. Kumar said the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), through the Classified Criminal Investigation Unit (USJT) of Bukit Aman’s D5 Division, launched an investigation into the viral TikTok video.
“The video contained elements of sedition and insults directed at the Yang di-Pertuan Agong and the Malay Rulers. The case is being investigated under Section 4(1) of the Sedition Act 1948, Section 504 of the Penal Code, and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998,” he said in a statement today.
Following this, police arrested a 41-year-old man to assist with investigations. Checks revealed that the suspect has prior criminal records, including one narcotics-related case and three other criminal cases.
Kumar stressed that PDRM will not compromise with individuals who misuse social media platforms to spread seditious, defamatory, or provocative content that threatens public order and national security.
He also urged the public to act responsibly when using social media and to always respect the law.
