5 More Victims Report RM595k Scam Losses as Fake BSN Investment Scheme Deepens

Date:

Five more individuals have come forward alleging they were cheated of RM595,000 in a fraudulent investment scheme purportedly promoted by a Bank Simpanan Nasional (BSN) employee, raising the total reported losses to about RM1.6 million.

DAP Sarawak chairman Chong Chieng Jen said the new victims approached him after reading media reports on the unfolding scam. Some had invested as early as September 2024 and even renewed their placements, believing they were participating in an official BSN investment product introduced by the employee.

According to Chong, the victims only realised they were duped last week when the fraud case surfaced publicly. Upon checking with BSN, they were told the bank had no record of their investments and that their funds had been misappropriated.

Police reports have been lodged, and claims have been filed with BSN.

The modus operandi in these new cases mirrors earlier complaints: the employee allegedly instructed victims to withdraw cash from their BSN accounts and then claimed to invest the money on their behalf, later issuing fake ‘official’ BSN receipts.

Chong said some victims were informed that the bank would attempt to reimburse their losses within 14 days of their claim submissions.

In total, 11 victims have now contacted him, with combined losses estimated at RM1.6 million. He believes more individuals may have been defrauded and urged the public to verify their investment status at BSN branches immediately.

Chong also commended BSN for responding promptly and prioritising affected customers. He said he would continue monitoring the cases until all victims recover their money.
